Old Fashioned Apple Dumplins

List of Ingredients
6 med. apples
2 cups flour
2 & 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup milk
Sauce:
2 cup brown sugar
2 cup water
1/4 cup butter
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Crumble Topping:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground mace
4 tablespoons butter
Recipe
Pare and core apples. Leave whole. Make dough and roll like
pastry. Cut into 6 squares. Place apple in each. Fill cavity
with cinnamon and sugar. Pat dough around apple and fasten
edges securely on top of apple. Place dumplins on greased
baking pan.
Pour over the sauce made as follows:
Combine brown sugar, water and spice. Cook 5 minutes; remove
from heat and add butter. Sprinkle with crumble topping.
Bake at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Baste occasionally
during baking.
To make crumble topping:
Mix dry ingredients together and cut in 4 tablespoons butter
to make coarse crumbs.
