    Chocolva

I was asked to come up with an alternative to wedding cake for a friends wedding. We are all in a middle eastern dance troupe and the wedding was to be at a dance festival. So we decided on baklava. In my search for baklava recipes, I discovered this idea. I substituted the walnuts with the mixture I have in this recipe, since we were serving alot and so many people are allergic to walnuts. This was my first attempt at such a dessert. Come to find out, alot of people don't like baklava, but guess what? Mine was a hit. The only thing we could figure was that we used the mixture of almonds, hazelnuts and pecans instead of walnuts. I also made a non-chocolate version and it was a hit too. That recipe is also in this site. *** Thank you Saqra for inspiring me to make this dessert. I made 5 13x17 pans of this

    List of Ingredients

4 c(1 lb) finley chopped nuts(I use a comboantion of pecan, hazelnuts(filberts)and almonds
    1 c chocolate chips
    3/4 c sugar
    1 1/2 t cinnamon
    1 1/4 c butter, melted
    1 lb pkg Filo dough
    3/4 c orange juice
    1/2 c sugar
    1/2 c honey
    2 oz semisweet chocolate square

    Recipe

    1. For filling, stir together nuts, chocolate, 3/4 c sugar and cinnamon.
    2. Brush the bottom of a 15x10x1 pan with some of the melted butter. Un fold the filo. Layer about 1/4 of the sheets on the bottom, brushing each with generously melted butter allowing the dough to extend up the sides of the pan.( Make sure to keep unused dough covered so it doesn't dry out)
    3. Sprinkle about 2 cuos filling on top. Repeat layering filo and filling 2 more times. layer the remaining sheets on top, brushing each with butter. Drizzle any remaining butter on top. Trim edges to fit pan.
    4. Using a sharp knife, cut through all layers to make triangles, diamond shapes or squares. Bake in 350 oven for 45-50 min or until golden. Slightly cool pan on a wire rack.
    5. Meanwhile, in a med saucepan, stir together orange juice, 1/2 c sugar, honey and 1/2 c water. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes. Pour over warm cholova in pan. Cool completely.
    6. In a heavy sauce pan, heat and stir chocolate and 2T water over low until smooth. Drizzle over chocolava.
**I use butter flavor pan spray between the sheets, it's easier, then drizzle melted butter over the top.
