    Banana Cream Pie

    Source of Recipe

    Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook

    Recipe Introduction

This recipe is from the Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook that Grandma Pat gave me when we first got married. After all these years, it’s still one of the best.

    List of Ingredients

    1 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour or 1/4 cup cornstarch
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    3 cups milk
    4 eggs
    3 Tablespoons butter
    1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla
    3 banana, sliced
    1 9-inch baked pie shell

    Recipe

For filling, in a medium saucepan combine sugar, flour or cornstarch, and salt; gradually stir in milk. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat; cook and stir 2 minutes more. Remove from heat.

Separate egg yolks from whites. Beat egg yolks slightly. Gradually stir 1 cup of the hot mixture into yolks. Return egg mixture to saucepan; bring to a gentle boil. Cook and stir 2 minutes more. Remove from heat.

Stir in butter and vanilla. Place sliced bananas in bottom of baked pie shell. Pour hot filling over bananas and let cool.

When cool, top with whipped cream.
