1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup granulated sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 egg yolk
2 tablespoons creme de cacao or milk
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate pieces
1/2 cup chopped toasted macadamia nuts
1 egg white
1 teaspoon water
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
Recipe
Beat butter or margarine in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium to high speed 30 seconds. Add 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt; beat till combined. Beat in eggs, egg yolk, and creme de cacao. Beat in cocoa and as much flour as you can with mixer. Stir in remaining flour, chocolate pieces, and nuts. Divide dough in half. Shape each portion into an 11-in. roll. Place 5 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Flatten to 2-in. width. Combine egg white and water. brush on loaves. Sprinkle with coarse or granulated sugar. Bake in a 325' oven 25 minutes or till firm and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on cookie sheet 1 hour or till completely cool. Transfer to a cutting board, cut each loaf diagonally into 1/2-in. slices. Lay slices, cut side down on the cookie sheet. Bake in a 325' oven for 10 minutes. Turn slices to the other side and bake 10 to 15 minutes more or till dry and crisp. Cool on wire rack.
