    Dandelion Wine

    Source of Recipe

    Grandma Minnie

    Recipe Introduction

    Dated 1929

    List of Ingredients

    • 2 qts dandelion blossoms
    • 1 gallon water
    • 2 oranges (coarsely chopped)
    • 2 lemons (coarsely chopped)
    • 4 lbs sugar

    Instructions

    1. Remove the dandelion stems and the outer ring of leaves around the blossom.
    2. Place the blossoms in a large bowl or crock.
    3. Bring the water to a boil and pour over the blossoms.
    4. Cover with cheese cloth or plastic wrap and allow to stand for 36 hours - stir once or twice.
    5. Strain the liquid through a cheesecloth lined colander and return to the crock.
    6. Add the oranges, lemons and sugar and cover again with plastic wrap.
    7. Store in a cool place and let the mixture work or ferment for 2 weeks.
    8. Strain again and return to the corck to ferment and bubble further.
    9. When the bubbling stops and the wine is clear - it is ready!

    10. You can now drink or bottle.
    11. If you bottle - use new corks - NOT old ones. Siphon into clean bottles.

    Final Comments

Fermenting varies considerably - sometimes it takes several weeks longer than this recipe shows!
