    List of Ingredients


    • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup corn meal
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 1 cup buttermilk
    • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
    • 1 egg
    • 3/4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese


    Instructions


    1. Preheat the oven to 375
    2. in a medium mixing bowl combine the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir with a table fork until well blended.
    3. In another medium mixing bowl, combine the buttermilk, oil and egg. Mix with a fork until blended.
    4. pour the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture. Gently stir with a rubber spatula until almost blended.
    5. Add the cheese and stir just until blended - DO NOT OVERSTIR
    6. Bake until the corn bread is browned on top and the toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean - about 20 minutes.


    Final Comments


    Serve warm or at room temp
