    Recipe Introduction

From Grandma Minnie's cookbook. Chow Mein in the midwest was never what you would have in Asia - it was it's own invention and just called chowmein.

    List of Ingredients

    • 1 lb ground round cubed into small pieces.
    • 2 cups of diced celery
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 2 Tbsp corn starch
    • 2 cups beef stock
    • 1/2 cups diced onions
    • 2 cups (canned) bean sprouts
    • Cooking oil
    • Chow mein noodles

    Instructions

    1. Brown the beef in the oil for 5 minutes or until browned and cooked.
    2. Add the beef stock.
    3. Simmer for 10 minutes on medium heat.
    4. Moisten the corn starch in a seperate dish with just a little water to make a paste.
    5. Add all the salt, celery, onions and bean sprouts.
    6. Add the corn starch mixture and stir to heat all items.
    7. Serve over chow mein noodles.
