    This recipe is in the book KIRSTEN AND THE CHIPPEWA...part of the American Girl Books.


    List of Ingredients


    • 1/2 tsp butter
    • 6 tart apples, peeled and cored
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
    • 3 eggs
    • 1 cup milk
    • 1 tsp maple syrup
    • 1 cup flour
    • 1 tsp cream of tartar
    • 1/2 tsp baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp salt


    Instructions


    1. Preheat the oven to 350. Butter a glass pie plate or baking dish.
    2. Peel and core your six apples.
    3. Place the six cored apples in a baking dish. Fill the holes with brown sugar. Slightly press the brown sugar into the holes.
    4. Sprinkle the nutmeg on top of the apples.
    5. Place the baking dish in the oven and allow to cook a bit while you work on the batter.
    6. In a medium mixing bowl, add the eggs and beat with a fork until foamy.
    7. Add the milk and the maple syrup.
    8. In a large mixing bowl add the flour, cream of tartar, baking powder, salt and sift thru the sifter into a large bowl. Add the remaining brown sugar.
    9. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and stir with a wooden spoon.
    10. Remove the baking dish from the oven and pour the batter around the apples (not over)
    11. Return the baking dish with the batter into the oven and bake for 45 minutes.


    Final Comments


    Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
