    Serves 6-8

    List of Ingredients




    2 cups dried great northern beans
    1 ham bone or 1 lb ham butt, cut into small pieces
    6 cups water
    1/2 cup chopped onion
    1 medium carrot, chopped
    1 stalk celery, chopped
    salt and pepper to taste
    1 TBSP flour (opt)
    1/2 cup water (opt)

    Recipe



    Soak beans according to the package directions. Drain. Place beans, ham and 6 cups water in a large saucepan. Cook 2 1/2 hours over low heat. If ham bone was used, remove at this point.

    Add carrot, celery, salt and pepper. Cook until veges are tender.

    For a thicker broth, combine the flour and water and add to the mixture.

    Cook 10 minutes longer.
