    List of Ingredients




    1 loaf (16 oz) French bread cut into 1 inch thick slices
    9 eggs and 2 cups milk stirred together
    2 cups half and half
    2 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 tsp each nutmeg and cinnamon

    For topping:
    3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter softened
    1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
    3 Tsp. dark corn syrup

    Options:
    1 1/3 cups chopped pecans or granny smith apples
    Top with whipped cream when serving

    Heavily butter 9x13 inch pan. Fill with the bread slices (dish should be filled to the top). Mix eggs and milk, half and half, vanilla an spices. Pour over bread slices. Refrigerate covered overnight. Heat oven to 350 degrees. For topping, mix butter, sugar and corn syrup. Stir in pecans or apples. Spread evenly over bread slices. Bake until puffed and golden, approximately 1 hour, 10 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
