Burger: Stuffed Southwestern Burgers

"This burger is packed with flavor from the inside out. Spices mixed into the beef and Monterey Jack cheese make this a smoky, satisfying meal."
List of Ingredients
2 pounds lean ground beef
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
4 slices reduced-fat Monterey Jack cheese
6-8 whole grain buns, toasted
6-8 lettuce leaves
6-8 tomato slices
Topping: purple onion slices, avocado, salsa
Recipe
1. Combine lean ground beef and next 4 ingredients; (shape into 12 equal-size patties for 6 servings or 16 patties for 8 servings.) 2. Top 6 patties with cheese, tearing cheese slices as needed to fit patties; cover with remaining patties, pressing edges to seal. Place on a rack of a broiler pan. 3. Broil 51/2 inches from heat (with electric oven door partially open) 8 to 10 minutes on each side or until beef is no longer pink. Serve on buns with lettuce, tomato and desired toppings.
Stove Top Directions 1. Place patties in a large skillet over medium-high heat; cook 8 to 10 minutes on each side or until done.
Broiler Directions 1. Broil 5 1/2 inches from heat (with electric oven door partially open) 8 to 10 minutes on each side or until beef is no longer pink.
Makes 6-8 servings.
Cooking Tip: Patties may be served open face or without buns.
