This year is the 150th anniversary of the potato chip. It was invented in Saratogo Springs, NY, by Chef George Crum.
There are two versions of the story of its birth. Some say George was taking revenge on a diner who complained about underdone spuds. Others claim his sister Kate accidentally dropped a potato slice in oil.
Whichever way it happened, it produced a $6 billion a year industry and contributed to sales in another industry, weight loss.
