    Biscuits: Corn Meal Biscuits

    List of Ingredients

    1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
    1/2 cup self-rising corn meal
    1 teaspoon sugar
    1/3 cup shortening
    3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons buttermilk

    Recipe


    Combine flour, corn meal and sugar. Cut shortening into flour mixture with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    Add buttermilk, stirring with a fork to make a soft dough. Knead gently on a lightly floured surface just until smooth.

    Roll out 1/2 inch thick and cut with floured biscuit cutter. Place on greased baking sheet and bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.

    Makes 12 to 14 biscuits.
