    Toffee: Grandma Weiser’s English Toffee

    Source of Recipe

    Gooseberry Patch Classic Christmas Recipes

    Recipe Introduction

This chocolaty English toffee is easy and delicious and can make the perfect homemade holiday gift. A candy thermometer guarantees the best outcome when making the toffee but if you don’t have one, go by the color and look for a rich, caramel shade. Store the toffee in an airtight container for up to one week or freeze for up to a month.

    List of Ingredients

    1 cup butter
    1 cup sugar
    1 tablespoon light corn syrup
    2 tablespoons water
    1 cup chocolate chips
    1 cup almonds, sliced

    Recipe

In a heavy saucepan, combine all ingredients except chocolate chips and nuts. Stirring constantly, cook over medium heat until candy thermometer reads 300 degrees or until candy is thick and golden. Spread on a greased baking sheet, and then sprinkle with chocolate chips. Spread chips evenly until melted and top is completely covered. Sprinkle with almond pieces and refrigerate to set. Break into pieces before serving.

    YIELD: About 1 lb.
