    Chocolate Mousse Temptation Cake

    Source of Recipe

    Katherine Dyson

    Recipe Introduction

What could be easier? You make the cake batter and icing at the same time.

    List of Ingredients

1/2 lb. (8 squares) unsweetened chocolate
1/2 lb. sweet butter, cut into cubes
    8 egg yolks
    1-1/4 cups sugar
    5 egg whites
    1 Tbsp. powdered cocoa
    1 tsp. confectioners sugar

    Recipe

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Put the chocolate squares and butter in a saucepan. Set the saucepan in a skillet of boiling water (keep the water simmering). Stir the chocolate and butter until the chocolate is melted.

Combine the egg yolks and sugar and beat until light and lemon-colored. Add the chocolate sauce to the egg mixture, stirring to blend thoroughly. Beat the whites until stiff but not dry. Add half the egg whites to the chocolate mixture and beat. Fold in the remaining whites. Butter the bottom and sides of an 8" springform pan. Pour in three-quarters of the mixture into the pan. Set the remaining chocolate aside. This will be used as a filling and frosting. Place the pan in the oven and bake one hour and 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand on a rack about 10 minutes. Remove the rim from the pan and let cake cool. Spoon a portion of the reserved, uncooked chocolate mixture around the sides of the cake, smoothing over like any icing. Build it slightly around the top of the cake. Spoon remaining mixture evenly over top of cake. Place cocoa in a sieve and sprinkle cocoa over top. Chill briefly. Add confectioners' sugar to the sieve and sprinkle it over the top of cake.
