    Ethnic: White Italian Cookie

    Recipe Introduction

    I'm third generation Italian, My Mother gave this recipe to me. My Grandmother Metro brought it with her from Calabria, Italy. This cookie is a holiday must in our house

    List of Ingredients

    4 cups flour
    4 tsps baking powder
    1 cup lard (we use crisco)
    1 cup sugar
    1/4 cup whole milk
    2 tsp vanilla
    3 whole eggs
    3 egg yolks

    Recipe

    Sift dry ingredients together, cut crisco into flour mixture (mixture should be crumbly). Make a well in the flour mixture and add the eggs, vanilla and milk. Mix by hand mixture will be sticky, put a little flour in your hands and roll into balls or open figure eight twists. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Frost with a simple white frosting (color for the holidays) while frosting is wet dip cookin in chopped walnuts or cocoanut.

    Recipe yeilds about 3 dozen cookies depending on how big you roll the ball or make the twist.
