    Recipe Introduction

"Decorate these little beauties on top with little strips of dough - tie in a bow, or overlap in decorative patterns."

    List of Ingredients

    Dumplings:
    2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons Clabber Girl Baking Powder
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup butter
    2/3 cup milk
    4 baking apples
    1/3 cup brown sugar
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
    2 teaspoons butter
    Milk

    Sauce:
    2 cups water
    1/4 cup lemon juice
    1/3 cup butter
    3 Tablespoons Clabber Girl Cornstarch
    1 cup brown sugar
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

    Recipe

    Dumplings:
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt, cut in butter. Stir in milk; mix until soft dough is formed. Knead 4 strokes and separate into 5 balls. Roll each to 1/8" thickness. Place 4 of the balls on a workspace for apples. Core and peel apples, placing one on each square. Combine sugar and spices; sprinkle into center of each apple, adding 1/2 teaspoon butter to each. Moisten edges of dough; press corners up over apples. Cut the last square of dough into strips and wrap around tops of apple dumplings, tying a delicate bow. Brush with milk.

Place on a greased baking pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

    Sauce:
Heat water, lemon juice and butter. Combine remaining ingredients; mix thoroughly. Stir into hot mixture; cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened.

Pour sauce over hot apple dumplings.

    YIELD: Makes 4 servings.
