    Recipe Introduction

A treat that's sweet and healthy to eat!

    List of Ingredients

1 pound (about 10) pitted dates
1 pound (about 12) dried figs
1 pound (about 12) dried apricots
    1 cup of raisins
    1 cup of chopped nuts
    2 tablespoons of shredded coconut
    a cutting board or tray
    plastic knives
a chopping knife ( for parents to use only)
    a large bowl
    a mixing spoon
    waxed paper
    a large plate

    Recipe

Put each ingredient, except the shredded coconut, onto the tray or cutting board one at a time. Take turns with your children chopping the fruits and nuts with plastic knives. Once your children have finished, you may need to use a sharp knife to make sure that all the ingredients are finely chopped. Place all the chopped ingredients into the large bowl. Use the spoon to mix everything together. Optional! Ask your children to moisten their hands with a little water. Let them help form the mixture into 1 inch balls. Your child will really love this part!
Sprinkle the coconut onto a sheet of waxed paper. Ask your children to roll balls in the coconut and place the balls onto the plate. As you begin to enjoy your snack together, talk about how it is similar to and different from other types of candy.
