    PREP AND COOK TIME: About 25 minutes
    NOTES: If making up to 1 day ahead, cover and chill.
    MAKES: About 11/2 cups

    In a 5- to 6-quart pan over medium-high heat, stir 1 tablespoon butter or margarine and 4 cups thinly sliced onions until butter is melted. Cover pan and stir occasionally until onions are limp, about 10 minutes. Uncover and stir often until onions are tinged with brown, about 7 minutes longer.

    Per 2 tablespoons: 29 cal., 31% (9 cal.) from fat; 0.6 g protein; 1 g fat (0.6 g sat.); 4.6 g carbo (0.9 g fiber); 11 mg sodium; 2.6 mg chol.
