    5-Layer Brownie Bars

    List of Ingredients




    1 1/2 cups flour
    1 1/2 cups toasted quick-cooking oats
    1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter)
    12 ounce semisweet chocolate chips
    2 cups toasted pecans, chopped
    1/2 cup heavy cream
    14 ounce caramels (unwrapped)

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Blend first 5 ingredients together in bowl or food processor. When thoroughly mixed add butter and blend till it resembles coarse crumbs. Reserve 2 cups for topping. Line a 9x13 inch pan with foil rubbed with butter. Press mixture into bottom of pan firmly with hands. Next, add the chocolate chips. Then add nuts. Spread evenly in pan. In medium saucepan put caramel and heavy cream. Stir often while melting. When completley melted carefully drizzle over nuts. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture evenly over top of the chocolate.

    With spatula press topping gently onto caramel. Bake for 15 minutes. Let cool completely. Put in refrigerator to set for 30-60 minutes. Lift alluminum foil out and set on cutting board. Cut into 1 inch squares. Use a cold, sharp, serrated knife to cut; rinsing off knife after each pass.
