    Small-Batch Butter Frosting

    List of Ingredients




    This makes enough for one, 8 or 9 inch layer cake.

    16 ounces powdered sugar
    1/2 cup butter or margarine,softened
    4-6 tablespoons milk or half and half
    1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

    Recipe



    In large bowl, with mixer at medium-low speed, beat powdered sugar, butter and 3 tablespoons milk till smooth and blended. Beat in additional milk as needed for easy spreading consistency. Increase speed to medium-high; beat till light and fluffy. Makes about 2 1/2 cups.

    Lemon butter frosting: Prepare as above but use 2 tablespoons milk, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice and 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel. Use only 1-2 tablesppons milk as needed for easy spreading consistency.

    Orange Butter Frosting: Prepare as above but use 2 tablespoons orange juice for lemon juice and 1 tablespoon grated orange peel.
