    B.J.'s Chocolate Cake/Chocolate Pecan Frosting

    Recipe Introduction

    My daughter always asks for this cake. It is a family favorite.

    List of Ingredients

    • 1 stick BUTTER
    • 1/2 cup Crisco Shortening
    • 1 cup water
    • 4 Tbsp. powdered cocoa
    • 1 tsp. each of salt, baking soda and vanilla
    • 2 cups each of flour and sugar
    • 1/2 cup buttermilk
    • 2 eggs
    • 6 Tbsp. evaporated milk
    • 1 stick butter
    • 4 Tbsp. powdered cocoa
    • 1 box powdered sugar
    • 1 tsp. vanilla
    • 1 cup pecans halves


    1. Preheat oven to 350% (325% if using glass pan) Grease and flour 9"x12" baking pan.

    2. CAKE: Place butter, crisco, water & cocoa in sauce pan and bring to a boil.

    3. Remove from heat and stir in remaining cake ingredients. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes

    4. ICING: Place milk, butter & cocoa in sauce pan and bring to a boil.

    5. Remove from heat and beat in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.

    6. Stir in pecans.

    7. Pour over HOT cake. Gently spread evenly.

    Final Comments

    This is very moist and keeps well.
