    Baby Ruth Bars

    List of Ingredients








    4 cups old-fashioned oatmeal, uncooked

    1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

    1/4 cup light corn syrup

    1/4 cup smooth peanut butter

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    3/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature (1 1/2 sticks; see note)

    Topping:

    11/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

    1/2 cup butterscotch chips

    2/3 cup smooth or crunchy peanut butter




    Recipe



    Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Butter a 13-by-9-inch baking pan.

    In a large mixing bowl, blend the oatmeal, brown sugar, corn syrup, peanut butter, vanilla and butter. Spread into the prepared baking pan and pat into an even layer.

    Bake 12 minutes, or until light brown. Remove from the oven and immediately add topping.

    topping: As soon as bar layer is removed from oven, sprinkle on the chocolate and butterscotch chips.

    When the chips have softened, spread the top of the bars with the peanut butter, swirling the mixture over the surface. Cool in the pan, then cut into squares.

    Makes 24 bars

    Note: Use real butter or stick margarine.
