MOLASSES SUGAR COOKIES
I RECEIVED THIS RECIPE FROM A NEWSLETTER WHICH I BELONG TO. UNFORTUNATELY, I DON'T HAVE THE NAME OF THE PERSON WHO POSTED IT, IN ORDER TO GIVE HER THE CREDIT. THEY ARE EVERYTHING SHE SAID THEY WERE, PLUS VERY DELICIOUS.
SHE WROTE: THESE ARE SOFT AND CHEWY IF YOU DON'T COOK THEM TOO LONG!!. YOU CAN CHANGE THE SPICES AS YOU LIKE... I SOMETIMES HALVE THE CINNAMON AND DOUBLE THE GINGER TO MAKE THEM LIKE GINGERBREAD. IF YOU FLATTEN THE BALLS AND COOK THEM A BIT LONGER THEY ARE CRISP.
List of Ingredients
- 1 3/4 CUPS SHORTENING
- 2 CUPS SUGAR
- 1/2 CUP DARK MOLASSES
- 2 LARGE EGGS
- 4 TEASPOONS BAKING SODA
- 4 CUPS FLOUR
- 1 TEASPOON GROUND CLOVES
- 1 TEASPOON GROUND GINGER
- 2 TEASPOONS CINNAMON
- 1 TEASPOON SALT
Instructions
- MELT THE SHORTENING IN A 3 TOR 4 QUART SAUCE PAN OVER LOW HEAT, LET COOL.
- ADD SUGAR, MOLASSES AND EGGS, BEAT WELL. ADD FLOUR, SODA, SPICES AND SALT. MIX WELL AND CHILL.
- FORM INTO 1" BALLS, ROLL IN SUGAR AND BAKE ON A COOKIE SHEET ABOUT 2" APART IN A PREHEATED 350° OVEN FOR APPROXIMATELY 8 TO 10 MINUTES.
Final Comments
THESE COOKIES ARE REALLY DELICIOUS WITH A GLASS OF MILK OR A CUP OF HOT TEA.
