APPLE HONEY SCONES
THIS IS A WONDERFUL AND DELICIOUS SCONE. THE RECIPE COMES FROM THE QUIET COTTAGE BED AND BREAKFAST IN WISCONSIN.
List of Ingredients
- 2 CUPS FLOUR
- 2/3 CUP WHEAT GERM
- 2 TEASPOONS BAKING POWDER
- 1 TEASPOON GROUND CINNAMON
- 1/4 TEASPOON BAKING SODA
- 1/4 TEASPOON SALT
- 1/3 CUP CHILLED BUTTER
- 1 1/4 CUPS FINELY CHOPPED APPLE
- 1/2 CUP SKIM MILK OR HALF AND HALF
- 1/3 CUP HONEY
- 1 TABLESPOON WHEAT GERM
- 1 TABLESPOON SUGAR
- 1/4 TEASPOON CINNAMON
Instructions
- PREHEAT OVEN TO 400°.
- SPRAY A LARGE COOKIE SHEET WITH A VEGETABLE SPRAY. SET ASIDE.
- IN A LARGE BOWL, COMBINE FLOUR, WHEAT GERM, BAKING POWDER, CINNAMON, BAKING SODA, SALT, CUT IN BUTTER UNTIL MIXTURE RESEMBLES COARSE CRUMBS.
- COMBINE APPLE, MILK AND HONEY, ADD TO CRUMBS AND MIX JUST UNTIL DRY INGREDIENTS ARE MOISTENED.
- TURN DOUGH ONTO LIGHTLY FLOURED SURFACE, KNEAD GENTLY 5 TO 6 TIMES. PAT INTO A 9" CIRCLE.
- COMBINE REMAINING INGREDIENTS, WHEAT GERM, SUGAR AND CINNAMON, SPRINKLE OVER DOUGH. CUT INTO 10 WEDGES; PLACE 1/2" APART ON PREPARED COOKIE SHEET AND BAKE 16 TO 18 MINUTES OR UNTIL LIGHTLY BROWNED.
