BASIL PARMESAN SCONES

- 1 RECIPE FOR BUTTERMILK BISCUITS ( FOLLOWS)
- 1/2 CUP PARMESAN CHEESE
- 1 TABLESPOON BAKIL
- DASH OF GARLIC AND ONION POWDER
- FRESH CRACKED BLACK PEPPER

- BUTTERMILK BISCUITS:
- 3 CUPS FLOUR
- 2 TABLESPOONS BAKING POWDER
- 2 TABLESPOONS SUGAR
- 1 TEASPOON CREAM OF TARTAR
- 1/4 TEASPOON CAYENNE PEPPER
- 1/2 CUP CRISCO VEGETABLE SHORTENING
- 1/2 CUP COLD SWEET BUTTER, CUT INTO CUBES
- 1 CUP OF ROOM TEMPERATURE BUTTERMILK
Instructions
- PREHEAT OVEN TO 375°. GREASE LARGE COOKIE SHEET AND SET ASIDE.
- IN THE BOWL OF A FOOD PROCESSOR, COMBINE THE FLOUR, BAKING POWDER, SUGAR, SALT, CREAM OF TARTAR, CAYENNE PEPPER, PARMESAN CHEESE, BASIL, GARLIC POWDER, ONION POWDER AND BLACK PEPPER, PULSE TO MIX ALL INGREDIENTS. ADD THE SHORTENING AND BUTTER, PULSE UNTIL MIXTURE FORMS A COARSE CRUMB. ADD BUTTERMILK AND PULSE UNTIL A FIRM DOUGH FORMS ( YOU CAN ADD A BIT MORE BUTTERMILK IF DOUGH IS TOO THICK).
- REMOVE FROM PROCESSOR AND PLACE ON A LIGHTLY FLOURED SURFACE AND KNEAD 8 TO 10 TIMES.
- ROLL DOUGH OUT TO A 1/2" THICKNESS AND CUT WITH A ROUND CUTTER.
- PLACE ON GREASED COOKIE SHEETS AND BAKE FOR 13 TO 15 MINUTES. SERVE WARM.
Final Comments
NICE TO SERVE FOR DINNER INSTEAD OF REGULAR BREAD.
