    List of Ingredients


    • 2 CUPS SIFTED FLOUR, MEASURE AFTER SIFTING
    • 2 TABLESPOONS SUGAR
    • 2 TABLESPOONS BAKING POWDER
    • 1/2 TEASPOON SALT
    • 1/2 TEASPOON BAKING SODA
    • 1/3 CUP COLD CRISCO BUTTER FLAVORED SHORTENING
    • 3/4 CUPS BUTTERMILK
    • 2 TABLESPOONS HALF & HALF


    Instructions


    1. PREHEAT OVEN TO 450°.
    2. RESIFT FLOUR WITH SUGAR, BAKING POWDER, SALT AND BAKING SODA INTO A LARGE BOWL. CUT IN THE VEGETABLE SHORTENING WITH A PASTRY BLENDER OR YOUR FINGERS UNTIL MIXTURE RESEMBLES COARSE MEAL. MAKE A WELL IN CENTER AND POUR IN BUTTERMILK. TOSS UNTIL DOUGH BINDS WELL TOGETHER. KNEAD DOUGH ON A LIGHTLY FLOURED SURFACE UNTIL SMOOTH, 3 TO 5 TIMES.
    3. ROLL DOUGH OUT 1/2" THICK ON A LIGHTLY FLOURED SURFACE. CUT INTO 2 1/2" ROUNDS WITH A FLOURED BISCUIT CUTTER. ARRANGE ON AN UNGREASED BAKING SHEET, SPACING 1" APART.
    4. BRUSH TOPS WITH HALF & HALF. BAKE UNTIL TOPS ARE GOLDEN BROWN, 12 TO 15 MINUTES. SERVE WARM WITH BUTTER AND PRESERVES OR YOUR CHOICE.
    5. MAKES ABOUT 20 SCONES
