SPICY FRUIT SCONES
List of Ingredients
- 1/3 CUP BUTTER
- 1 3/4 CUPS FLOUR
- 3 TABLESPOONS SUGAR
- 2 1/2 TEASPOONS BAKING POWDER
- 1/4 TEASPOON SALT
- 1 EGG, BEATEN
- 1/2 CUP DICED DRIED FRUIT, YOUR CHOICE
- 5 TABLESPOONS HALF AND HALF
- 1 EGG, BEATEN
- 3/4 TEASPOONS GROUND CINNAMON
- 1/8 TEASPOON GROUND CLOVES
Instructions
- PREHEAT OVEN TO 400°.
- CUT BUTTER INTO FLOUR, SUGAR, BAKING POWDER, CINNAMON, CLOVES AND SALT WITH A PASTRY BLENDER UNTIL MIXTURE RESEMBLES FINE CRUMBS. STIR IN 1 EGG, THE FRUITS AND JUST ENOUGH HALF AND HALF SO DOUGH LEAVES SIDES OF BOWL.
- TURN DOUGH ONTO LIGHTLY FLOURED SURFACE. KNEAD LIGHTLY 10 TIMES. ROLL DOUGH TO 1/2" THICKNESS. CUT WITH A FLOURED BISCUIT CUTTER.
- PLACE ON UNGREASED COOKIE SHEET. BRUSH TOPS WITH EXTRA BEATEN EGG.
- BAKE 10 TO 12 MINUTES OR UNTIL PUFFED AND GOLDEN BROWN.
- IMMEDIATELY REMOVE FROM COOKIE SHEET AND COOL. SPLIT SCONES AND SPREAD WITH BUTTER AND SERVE WITH PRESERVES.
