    SPICY FRUIT SCONES


    List of Ingredients


    • 1/3 CUP BUTTER
    • 1 3/4 CUPS FLOUR
    • 3 TABLESPOONS SUGAR
    • 2 1/2 TEASPOONS BAKING POWDER
    • 1/4 TEASPOON SALT
    • 1 EGG, BEATEN
    • 1/2 CUP DICED DRIED FRUIT, YOUR CHOICE
    • 5 TABLESPOONS HALF AND HALF
    • 1 EGG, BEATEN
    • 3/4 TEASPOONS GROUND CINNAMON
    • 1/8 TEASPOON GROUND CLOVES


    Instructions


    1. PREHEAT OVEN TO 400°.
    2. CUT BUTTER INTO FLOUR, SUGAR, BAKING POWDER, CINNAMON, CLOVES AND SALT WITH A PASTRY BLENDER UNTIL MIXTURE RESEMBLES FINE CRUMBS. STIR IN 1 EGG, THE FRUITS AND JUST ENOUGH HALF AND HALF SO DOUGH LEAVES SIDES OF BOWL.
    3. TURN DOUGH ONTO LIGHTLY FLOURED SURFACE. KNEAD LIGHTLY 10 TIMES. ROLL DOUGH TO 1/2" THICKNESS. CUT WITH A FLOURED BISCUIT CUTTER.
    4. PLACE ON UNGREASED COOKIE SHEET. BRUSH TOPS WITH EXTRA BEATEN EGG.
    5. BAKE 10 TO 12 MINUTES OR UNTIL PUFFED AND GOLDEN BROWN.
    6. IMMEDIATELY REMOVE FROM COOKIE SHEET AND COOL. SPLIT SCONES AND SPREAD WITH BUTTER AND SERVE WITH PRESERVES.
    7. 15 SCONES
