    Chicken Stew

    Source of Recipe

    Woman's Day/May 19, 1978

    Recipe Introduction

Flavorsome Chicken in the Pot - easy one pot dish. Once assembled, you can more or less forget about it. Browing the chicken before braising helps develop the flavour and improves appearance.

    List of Ingredients

    1 broiler-fryer (about 3 pounds), cut up
    2 tablespoons oil
1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
    1 can ( 10 1/2 ounces) chicken gravy
4 medium-sized sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced 1/2 inch thick
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon marjoram or thyme
    1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 package (10 ounces) frozen green beans

    Recipe

In large skillet or flameproof casserole brown chicken in hot oil; push to one side. Add onion; saute until tender. Stir in gravy, potatoes, salt, majoram and pepper.

Cover and simmer 30 minutes or until chicken and potatoes are almost tender.

Add beans. Cover and simmer 10 minutes or until chicken and vegetables are tender.

NOTE: If desired, use 1 can (18 ounces) sweet potatoes, drained, instead of fresh. Add them with green beans.

    Makes 4 servings.
