    Orange Roll Recipe

    Source of Recipe

I got this recipe from my mom Barbara

    List of Ingredients

    Basic sweetroll dough
    2 c. lukewarm water
    2 pkg dry yeast
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 c. shortning
    2 tsp salt
    1 egg
    6 1/2-7 c. white flour

In a bowl dissovle yeast in warm water. Stir in sugar, salt, shortning
and egg. Mix in flour until you get a soft dough. Knead thoughly for about 4-5 minuets. Place in a large greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and place in a warm spot until the dough rises to double in bulk.(about 1 - 1 1/2 hours.)
    Punch down.

Here are the directions on how to make them into orange rolls.

Seperate your dough into two parts, and roll out on a floured board until it is 1/2-3/4
inch thick and about 12x15 long. Spread with some of the frosting you just made...more is not better... your rolls will swim in it.(the recipe for the frosting is below, have it ready) Just spread a thin layer. Roll up, jelly roll style rolling from the long side. Cut into pieces 1" wide. Place rolls in a greased 9x13 rectangle pan. Cover and let rise to double in bulk. Bake in a 375 degree oven for about 15-20 min. Watch them closely so they don't burn. Cool And frost.

    Orange frosting:

1 lb box of powdered sugar
    6-8 tbsp of margarine (soft)
1/2 small can orange juice consentrate
zest of 2 oranges. ( use a fine grater or a zester) and grate the orange peel.

Beat all of the above ingredients until nice and creamy, fold in the zest by hand. When I make the frosting I start out with 6 tbsp of margarine, and 1/2 small can of orange juice consentrate( DO NOT ADD WATER) If it is to stiff I add a little more of the juice consentrate, you don't want it runny, but you don't want it too stiff either. If you want it to be more orangy add a little more orange concentrate, but don't get it too thin
