    1 can SPAM Classic, cut into 8 slices
    2 cups sticky rice
    4 sheets of nori*, cut in half
    Teriyaki Sauce (see recipe below)



    Directions:
    Rinse 2 cups of short grain rice once and cook with 2 cups of water. Poach SPAM slices in Teriyaki Sauce.


    To assemble, place nori on a flat surface (shiny side down). Place musubi mold** on nori. Fill musubi mold with rice half way. Place a piece of SPAM on rice and cover with more rice. Remove from mold and wrap with nori.


    * Nori: Paper-thin sheets of dried seaweed. May be purchased in Japanese markets or specialty sections of large supermarkets.


    **Musubi mold: May be purchased on numerous Web sites. An empty SPAM can – open on both ends – also may be used.


    Teriyaki Sauce


    Ingredients
    1 cup soy sauce
    ½ cup mirin*
    ½ cup water
    ¼ cup brown sugar
    1 ½ teaspoons minced garlic
    1 ½ teaspoons minced ginger
    Juice from 1 medium orange


    Directions:
    Combine all ingredients and blend well. Bring ingredients to a boil and stir in cornstarch slowly to thicken.


    *Mirin: Low-alcohol, sweet, golden wine made from glutinous rice. Also is known as rice wine.
