    Classic Sloppy Joes

    Source of Recipe

    Heinz It Up

    Recipe Introduction

Serves 8. Not all Worchestershire Sauces are GF so please check with the companies.

    List of Ingredients

    1 tbsp vegetable oil
    1 small onion, chopped
    1/3 cup chopped green pepper
    1 lb lean ground beef
1 1/2 cup Heinz Tomato Ketchup
    1 tbsp Heinz Worchestershire Sauce
    2 tbsp brown sugar
1/4 tsp each salt and pepper
    8 GF sandwich buns

    Recipe

Heat oil in a large frying pan set over medium-high heat. Saute onions and green pepper for 5 minutes.

Add beef to the pan. Cook, stirring until browned, about 5 to 10 minutes. Drain off fat. Stir in ketchup, worcestershire sauce, sugar, salt and pepper. Simmer
over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until slightly thickened. Serve on sandwich buns. Makes 8 servings.

    Twists:

Twist 1 For burger-appeal, jazz-up Sloppy Joes with additional toppings such as shredded lettuce, chopped tomato, grated cheese, soy sour cream or homemade GFCF ranch dressing.

Twist 2 For a meat variation, use lean ground chicken or turkey instead of beef.

Twist 3 For a Veggie-boosted Joe, stir in 1 cup (250 mL) each shredded carrot and chopped mushrooms.

Twist 4 For a modern alternative, try pitas or naan instead of sandwich buns.

Twist 5 For a chunkier Joe, use Heinz Chili Sauce, Chunky with Sweet Peppers instead of ketchup.

Twist 6 For a smokey-flavoured Joe, use one of the Heinz Western Grill BBQ Sauces instead of ketchup.
