Pre-treat dishes by sprinkling baking soda on slightly damp dishes (softens foods). Do not rinse. Use less detergent in the dispenser. As an alternative automatic dishwashing detergent, use 1/2 cup borax per load and vinegar to rinse.
To clean an automatic dishwasher, empty a jar of TANG and run the cycle - it works great on stains and build-up, especially useful if you have hard water.
