Use two layers of fine cheesecloth to strain this mixture.
INGREDIENTS
4 cups rose petals
2 cups water
2 tablespoons sugar
natural red food coloring (like from beets)
Recipe
1. Simmer rose petals with water and sugar for 1 hour. Add drops of all natural red food coloring until mixture reaches desired color. (optional)
2. Strain through a fine sieve.
3. Bring back to a boil and put in hot sterilized bottles. Refrigerate.
4. Keeps up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. Can be added to sparkling water or Champagne for a delicious beverage or pour over fruit, pound cake, or pancakes.
MAKES 2 CUPS
Turkish Delight: Traditional Turkish recipes for rose petal syrup call for the inclusion of poppy petals. If you’d like to try this, add about a cup of poppy petals to the mixture, and increase the amounts of water and sugar until you get the consistency and taste you desire.
Note from BL: Be aware the poppy petals "may" have a slight narcotic reaction and should not be given to children or adults unaware.
