Cuban-style Mashed and Boiled Root Veget

List of Ingredients
Washed, peeled, and cut into serving-sized pieces, your choice of the following:
* sweet cassava tubers (also called manioc, or yuca)
* plantains
* red potatoes or white potatoes
* sweet potatoes
* taro (also called cocoyam)
* yams
For Mashed Vegetables:
* Beans with one of the vegetables listed above
* Beans and corn (maize)
* saltRecipe
In one pot, heat water and add salt (to taste) to boiling in a saucepan. Add root vegetables. Cook until tender.
For Mashed Vegetables: Heat water and salt (to taste) to boiling in a saucepan. Add all ingredients. Cook until tender. Drain water from pan, and mash (like mashed potatoes or refried beans). Season with any or all (or none) of the following: fried Onion, palm oil, cayenne pepper or red pepper, hot sauce, dried fish, salted fish, or smoked fish.
