    Carol's French Apple Bars

    This is basically a large, flat apple pie.

    List of Ingredients




    Pastry:
    Combine
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1 t. salt
    1 c. shortening
    In a 1 cup measing cup, beat
    1 egg yolk (reserve egg white for later use)
    Add enough milk to make 2/3 cup of liquid. Stir liquid into flour mixture.

    Roll out half of the mixture into a 10x15 inch pan. Sprinkle with 1 or more cups of Corn Flakes. Place 8 to 10 cups of peeled and sliced tart apples over Corn Flakes. Add 3/4 to 1 cup sugar with 1 t. cinnamon on the apples. Place another rolled out rectangle of pastry on top. Cut 2 slits on top and seal edges. Brush with egg white. Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 50 minutes. Drizzle with icing made of 1 cup of powdered sugar and 4 t. milk.
