    Ed's Favorite Gooey Brownies

    4 ounces (1 stick) butter
    1 pound semisweet chocolate chips
    ¼ cup heavy cream
    3 eggs
    1¼ cups sugar
    1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    1¼ cups all-purpose flour
    1/4 teaspoon baking soda

    6 ounces good quality bittersweet chocolate bar, broken into ½-inch chunks, approximately

    Preheat oven to 325 F. Melt butter, chocolate and cream in double boiler. Whisk together eggs, sugar and vanilla. Combine chocolate with eggs until smooth.

    Whisk in sifted dry ingredients. Fold half the bittersweet chocolate chunks into batter. Pour into a greased 8-inch-square pan. Scatter remaining bittersweet chocolate chunks on top.

    Bake for approximately 40 minutes, or until center is molten and not quite set. Makes 12 to 16 brownies.
