Recipe Introduction
R.W. has come to the rescue with a recipe for Russian Rocks – given to her, she says, by a "little old lady in Dallas" about 20 years ago. The cookies were requested by N.T.
List of Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
1 ½ cups brown sugar
3 eggs
3 cups plus about 2 tablespoons flour (divided use)
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda, dissolved in 1/2 cup water
1 pound dates, chopped, or raisins
1 pound chopped pecansRecipe
Preheat oven to 400 F. Grease baking sheet.
Cream butter and brown sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. In another bowl, sift 3 cups flour, allspice, cloves and cinnamon. Add water mixed with baking soda. Gradually add to creamed mixture.
Put dates or raisins and pecans in a bowl or plastic bag. Add 2 tablespoons flour; stir or shake to coat, then add to the bigger bowl.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
