    Cracker Barrel American Holidays Cookbook Vol II

    List of Ingredients




    2 pkgs dry yeast
    1 cup buttermilk
    2 tbsp sugar
    1 tsp baking soda
    1 cup shortening
    1/3 cup lukewarm water
    5 cups plain flour
    1 tbsp baking powder
    1 1/4 tsp salt

    Recipe



    Stir yeast into warm water to dissolve. Mix with buttermilk. Combine all dry ingredients in mixing bowl, cut in shortening. Add buttermilk yeast mixture. Stir to form a soft dough. Roll 1/2 to 1″ thick on lightly floured surface. Cut out, place on 2 greased 10 x 15 cookie sheets (allow room to expand). Let rise in warm place 1 1/2 hours. Bake in 400F oven 15 minutes.
