    This recipe is kind of funny because it has the words scum and it smells too, but we love pickles.


    List of Ingredients


    • 1 quart white vinegar
    • 3 quart water
    • 1 cup kosher salt
    • Dill weed
    • 6-8 toe garlic
    • pickling spices
    • 2 teaspoons alum
    • Grape leaves


    Instructions


    1. Fill a 3 gallon crock about 2/3 full of cucumbers and then Boil together vinegar, water, salt and spices. Pour over the crock of cukes and then add grape leaves. Put a plate on top and push down. A scum forms on the top. Let it sit for 1-2 weeks and then start eating them. I leave it outside in the garage because it has a strong smell.
