    Butter Caramel Sauce

    Source of Recipe

Louise Perry - grandmother of April

    Recipe Introduction

This is the sauce that all of Granny's kids like on their cake.

    List of Ingredients

    • 3/4 cup sugar
    • 1/8 tsp. salt
    • 1 cup light cream or top milk
    • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
    • 1/2 cup white corn syrup

    Instructions

    1. Combine sugar, salt, margarine, corn syrup, and 1/2 cup of the cream in sauce pan.
    2. Bring to a boil and cook over low heat to 250 degrees or until a little of the mixture forms a hard ball when dropped in cold water.
    3. Add the remaining 1/2 cup of cream and cook to 216 degrees or until a little of the mixture forms a thread when dropped from the tip of the spoon.
    4. Add vanilla.
    5. Serve over ice cream, pudding, or plain cake.

    Final Comments

Canned milk has been used in place of light cream before and has worked well.
