Herman (Friendship Cake)

Recipe Introduction


This is Herman. On the day you get Herman, you must feed him.


Feeding:
1 C Flour
1 C Milk
1/2 C Sugar


Feed on the first and fifth day. Bake on the 10th day.
Keep Herman refrigerated in a large loosely covered bowl. Stir Herman every day because he grows to top of bowl.
On baking day, measure out 1 cup of Herman for yourself and feed him.
Measure out 1 cup of Herman for a friend.
Put the 2 remaining cups in a mixing bowl and add:
2 C Flour
1 C Sugar
2 Eggs
1/2 C Oil
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Soda
1/2 tsp Baking powder
1 C Nuts (optional)



Mix at medium speed until well blended. Pour into greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
Before baking, mix the following topping and pour over dough; swirl with fork:
1 tbsp Cinnamon
1/2 C Brown sugar
1 tbsp Flour
1/2 C Melted margarine



Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.

After baking, boil the following glaze for 3 to 4 minutes and spoon over cake.
1/2 C Margarine
1/2 C Brown sugar
1/8 C Milk
