    Recipe Introduction


    Makes serving for 12 people
    2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    2 cups sugar
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1 1/3 cups buttermilk or sour milk
    1/2 cup shortening, margarine or butter
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    4 egg whites
    10 oz bag Reese's chips


    In a bowl combine flour,sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and 1/8 teaspoon of salt. Add buttermilk, shortening and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping bowl occasionally. Add egg whites and beat for 2 minutes more, scraping bowl. Pour in 10 oz bag of Reese's chips - stir with spoon. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9x1 1/2-inch round baking pans. Bake at 350 degrees oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on wire racks for 10 minutes. Loosen sides and remove from pans. Cool thoroughly on wire racks. Serves 12 people.
