    Vanilla Bean

    Source of Recipe

    internet
How do you extract flavor from a vanilla bean?
A: To extract a vanilla bean's flavor, place it in a hot liquid, such as cream or milk. The bean may be inserted either whole or split. If you opt to keep the bean whole, it can be used again: simply remove the bean from the liquid after steeping, rinse it off, pat it dry and store it in the freezer for a second use. Or, split the bean lengthwise, scrape the seeds into the liquid and drop the pod in. The flavor will be somewhat stronger, and the tiny black seeds will speckle the dish appealingly--but you won't be able to use the pod again.
