    Chicken and Dumplings

    1 frying chicken, cut up
    3 c water
    1 onion, chopped
    1/2 bay leaf
    2 lemon, slices
    salt
    pepper

    1 c sifted flour
    3/4 ts salt
    1 ts minced onion
    1/3 c milk
    1 ts baking powder
    dash of mace or nutmeg
    2 egg yolks

    Simmer chicken with all ingredients except the dumplings, 35 minutes
    or until tender. Remove bay leaf and lemon. Drop dumpling batter
    on top of chicken with teaspoon. Cover tightly and simmer 15 minutes
    without removing cover. Serve at once. Makes five servings.

    Dumling Batter

    Sift together dry ingredients. Add onion. Beat egg yolks with milk
    and add to dry mixture. Mix lightly until blended.
