Grandma's Chili

Grandma Utz
Soak 2 pounds of kidney beans overnight. Drain, rinse and cook until
tender with 1 large diced onion.
In a skillet brown:
1 pound hamburger
1/4 pound sausage
1 finely minced clove of garlic (more if you desire)
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 Tbs. chili powder.
Add 2 large cans of diced tomatoes
salt and pepper to taste
Combine this with the beans and onion and let it simmer at least one
hour. Longer simmering is better. If it gets too thick, add a little
tomato juice to thin it down. The onion is cooked with the beans to
avoid any burned onion taste you might get if it was done with the
hamburger mixture.
