    1/4 cup shortening
    2 tsp. baking powder
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    2/3 cup buttermilk
    1/2 cup grated Asiago cheese
    1 TBSP. finely chopped fresh basil

    Recipe



    Preheat the oven to 350°. In a large mixing bowl, cut together the shortening, baking powder, and flour. Add the buttermilk, cheese, and basil, mixing gently until a soft dough forms (do not overmix). Transfer the dough to a floured surface and pat into an 8-inch square. Cut the dough into 16 2-inch squares and place them on a greased baking sheet. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until golden.

    Makes 16 scones
