    Fudge Frosted Layer Cake

    CAKE

    SIFT... 2 cups cake flour, 1 1/3 cups sugar, 2 1/2 t. baking powder and 1 t. salt into mixing bowl
    ADD...1/2 cup Homogenized Spry (Crisco)
    COMBINE...1 cup less 2 T. milk and 1 1/2 t. vanilla.
    ADD...2/3 of the combined milk and vanilla.
    BEAT...200 strokes 2 minutes by hand or an electric mixer at low speed, scraping bowl, and beater)
    ADD...remaining milk and vanilla and 2 unbeaten eggs
    BEAT...2 minutes same as above
    POUR...into 2 square 8" x 8" greased and floured cake pans or 2 round 8" pans, (If I remember right, I think I used a 9" x" 13" cake pan)
    Bake 375° 25 to 35 minutes or until cake tests done.
    Cool 10 minutes in pan, then remove from pans and completely cool on racks.

    CHOCOLATE FUDGE FROSTING

    Combine in saucepan 3 oz. baking chocolate, cut fine, 2 1/4 cups sugar, 3/4 cup of milk. 6 T. Spry (Crisco) 3 T. butter or margarine (I would use all butter or margarine) 1 1/2 T. corn syrup and 1/4 t. salt.
    Bring slowly to a full rolling boil, stirring constantly, and boil briskly for 2 minutes, (On a very humid day, boil mixture 2 1/4 minutes)
    Cool to lukewarm, add 1 1/2 t. vanilla and beat until creamy and thick enough to spread. Yield: enough for tops sides of 2 8" layers.
    Decorate with walnut halves if desired.
