    1 c. granulated sugar
    1/2 c. light corn syrup
    2 1/2 T. shortening
    4 tsp. cocoa
    2 T. condensed skim milk
    1/2 tsp. vanilla

    Recipe



    Combine sugar, corn syrup, shortening and cocoa in medium saucepan over medium/high heat.
    Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to medium and simmer candy until temperature comes to 275 degrees on a candy thermometer.
    Remove pan from heat.
    When bubbling stops, add condensed milk and beat in pan with electric mixer for about 30 seconds.
    Add vanilla then continue to beat candy until it begins to firm and you can no longer beat it.
    Pour candy out onto waxed paper.
    When it is cool, divide candy in several portions and roll into long ropes.
    Use sharp knife to slice candy into 1 1/2" long portions.
    Let set out overnight to firm up.
    Makes 60 pieces.
