2 cubes (1 cup) margarine (not butter)
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg, separated
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
13/4 cups flour
1 cup sliced almonds

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Cream together margarine and sugar. Add egg yolk, vanilla and almond extract. Blend in flour.
Spread mixture on ungreased cookie sheet (11-by-15 inches) or in a 9-by-13-inch pan. Since the mixture can be sticky, put a piece of plastic wrap on top and then spread the batter around.
Beat one egg white until frothy and brush on top of the dough. Sprinkle almonds on top. Bake for about 30 minutes or until slightly browned. Cut into 11/2 inch squares when almost cool. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
